What is Grounding and Why Should I Do Grounding Techniques?

The root center in Human Design is a pressure center and a motor center. It is all about grounding and stillness. Therefore, when you are doing grounding exercises or techniques, you are not only taking care of your mental and physical health, you are also addressing the root center in your design!

What is grounding?

The term "grounding" is a therapeutic technique that involves you making bodily contact with the ground or nature, keeps you present, and connects you with the earth. Another aspect of grounding are self-soothing skills and techniques that helps you calm your body. If you are feeling anxious or tense, taking a couple of minutes to step outside, walk barefoot (in the grass or Danielle's favorite -- the sand!), acknowledging all of your senses, take deep breaths, or noticing your surroundings keeps you grounded. The goal of grounding is to keep your body and mind in a calm state and decrease any intense energy that life can bring!

I'm sure you are asking yourself, "Why should I care about grounding myself?". There are so many benefits to grounding, which include:

  • Decrease anxiety or PTSD

  • Stabilizes your physiology at your deepest levels

  • Reduces stress

  • Improves blood flow

  • Can help with sleep

  • Increases energy levels

  • Generates a greater well-being

Overall, grounding is something that can easily be incorporated into our daily lives. In fact, we have collected some our favorite grounding techniques on our YouTube Channel. We also encourage you to enter our #GETGROUNDED GROUNDING CHALLENGE and start your journey with grounding.
